JOHN ROCHE - WRITER

BIO

John Roche was born in Hartford, CT and brings his eclectic background in music, sports, mythology and history to his work in film and television.  He holds a BA from Boston University in Classical Civilization, and a Master’s degree in Historical Musicology from the University of Southern California, where he studied classical piano performance and conducting.  Parallel to his love of music, he found an increasing passion for film and television and was admitted to USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, where he graduated and earned a second Master’s. An avid sports fan, he was a videographer for the athletic department, creating highlight films for the football team during an era that saw two national championships and three Heismans added to the trophy case at Heritage Hall.

After USC, he landed a freelance assignment writing an episode of LIGHTS OUT on FX. He went on to write and produce for three seasons on NBC’s LAW & ORDER: SVU. During a USA network marathon celebrating SVU’s 300th episode, show creator Dick Wolf selected one of John’s episodes (“Spiraling Down”) as one of his “top five” in the series history.  Other recent credits include a season as Co-Producer on A&E’s UNFORGETTABLE, and Producer on TNT’s CIVIL.  Still an accomplished concert pianist and classical musician, one of John’s piano performances was featured in the HBO series IN TREATMENT, and he has conducted on the world famous Hollywood Bowl stage.  In his free time, John continues to make music and studies the heavens as an amateur astronomer. He lives with his wife, an opera singer, and their daughter, splitting time between the east coast and Los Angeles.
