José Andrés Moves Into Graphic Novels With ‘Feeding Dangerously’

EXCLUSIVE: José Andrés, the celebrity chef whose World Central Kitchen provides meals to those affected by disasters, has penned his own graphic novel.

Andrés has teamed up with TKO Studios to publish Feeding Dangerously: On the Ground with José Andrés and World Central Kitchen.

The book, which comes out November 8, is co-written by Andrés and Steve Orlando and illustrated by Alberto Ponticelli.

It tells the origin story of Andrés and his non-profit World Central Kitchen as they traverse the globe serving meals to communities affected by natural and man-made disasters. World Central Kitchen has served more than 300M meals worldwide.

For each book purchased directly, TKO Studios will donate $5 to World Central Kitchen to support their work and also made an initial donation of $100,000. It is available now for pre-orders.

TKO Studios was founded in 2018 by author Salvatore Simeone and TV showrunner and filmmaker Tze Chun, and has published graphic novels from The Boys’ Garth Ennis, Sweet Tooth’s Jeff Lemire and Roxane Gay.

It has also developed a number of them as film and television adaptations.

Steve Orlando said, “When you work in comics, at some point or another, your bread and butter is almost always going to involve the big concepts — capes, heroes, justice. Feeding Dangerously was an opportunity to examine those ideas as they can be applied in the real world. After a disaster — how does real relief happen? How are people in need helped? That’s Feeding Dangerously, a modern adventure book with real dangers, real disasters, and real healing.  It’s easily the work I’m most proud of in my career.”
